The Center for Learning
Effectiveness, Assessment, and Research
Metropolitan Community
College established the Center for Learning
Effectiveness, Assessment and Research (CLEAR) to
enhance support for learning initiatives beginning in 2005. The
center’s mission is to impart high standards for
learning outcomes assessment by expanding and supporting
evidence-based practices for continuous improvement in
teaching and learning. It is coordinated by one
full-time faculty member, who also serves as chair of
the
Outcomes Assessment Committee, The Clear Coordinator
is responsible for all
outcomes assessment progress reports to the Higher
Learning Commission.
The CLEAR coordinator
has additional
responsibilities but overall, the office provides
guidance to ensure that effective assessment plans and
measures are considered and in-place as curriculum
change and instructional improvement moves forward.
In addition to help with
learning outcomes assessment, CLEAR partners with the
Curriculum Design Studio (CDS), and the Center for
Learning Success (CLS) in the Learning Design and
Support Area. The three entities have created The
Institute for Faculty Excellence (IFEX). IFEX faculty
and staff members are available to faculty for
individual help with assessment, curriculum design,
learning community development, portfolio development,
and professional development needs.
