The Green Book Top 10 Tips for Saving Energy and Money

  1. Take a shorter shower (each minute uses 5 gallons of water).
  2. Turn off water when brushing teeth or washing dishes.
  3. Turn down (winter)/up (summer) your thermostat one degree (1 degree will save $100/year, 2 degrees, $200, etc.).
  4. Light bulbs—dust them and use energy-saving bulbs.
  5. Recycle as much as you can.
  6. Take your own re-usable shopping bags to the store.
  7. Look for biodegradable products—check the labels.
  8. Carpool whenever possible—plan errands so you drive the shortest routes.
  9. Keep curtains/shades closed as much as possible.
  10.  Unplug appliances (toaster, coffee maker) when not in use.
